Tigers & DOGS

Here are some quick tiger designs for an AWESOME PROJECT I'm working on with my friend Clara who I don't think has a website for me to link.

They seem like rather nice tigers.

Clara also wanted me to draw her a pleasant village.

What could be more pleasant than Dogstown?

Super Tired, the Awesome Kind of Tired

I can't believe how busy I've been lately, my part-time job is becoming more and more of a full-time job, Christmas is on its way, and I've spent a lot of time reconnecting with an old friend. We went to Dreamworks today! It was THE COOLEST SURPRISE! Her friend gave us an awesome tour and we had lunch together and I got to sign a nondisclosure agreement and everything!

Hell yeah I picked the Tina Fey visitor sticker!

Said friend and I are going to start working on a few projects together and I am SUPER EXCITED for it. More on that later this week probably.

But also, how awesome has the sky been lately? First a meteor shower, then a total lunar eclipse, and winter solstice is just starting. I read that if you went somewhere really far away from the city without much light pollution, you could see a few meteors shooting past the moonless sky tonight.

I can't believe I'd never seen a meteor shower or an eclipse before, I feel kind of silly for never looking! I was a space nerd as a kid, so I really have no excuse, either. Now I want to visit the Lick Observatory.

VIKING FURY

OK so yesterday I decided I was finally going to sign up and post on Conceptart.org's forums, and I started working on this thing for their Character of the Week. Then I realized I was probably not going to finish it by the Sunday deadline. Then I also haven't gotten an activation E-mail (apparently it sometimes takes a few days). So now I am really dead set on posting this sketch somewhere and I am doing that here.

Photobucket

I do intend to finish it, though (with a background and everything!) because it's outside my comfort zone and I need more of that. I might end up just using this as a rough, and redoing the whole thing, though. I definitely need to fix the legs (and backwards foot ahahaha oh fuck), and probably also make the figure a little more feminine--I wanted a muscular female maybe bordering on bodybuilder, but this is masculine to an "I don't know what gender this even is" degree, I think. I probably also should have planned out the costume earlier, instead of just winging it. In my defense, I was totally like "I AM GOING TO WHIP THIS OUT AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT" at the time, so cutting corners seemed like an awesome idea.

In other news, my good friend Lauren told me yesterday that she signed the lease on an apartment a couple of days ago (or was it yesterday? Oh god my days are getting so mixed up), so I get to go and visit her soon! :D :D :D

I've also been reconnecting with an old friend, and we are going to start working on a project together tomorrow, and I'm super excited about that, too! My life is getting so exciting oh my god!

PS the next dogs update will be dachshunds, in honor of Lauren and also this sweet old man who came into the Hickory Farms where I work earlier this week and told me the most adorable stories about his dachshund puppy. :3

dog break

Your scheduled dog broadcast will resume shortly.

Photobucket

I had a busy day at work, and no time to draw any new dogs. So here's some life drawing I did a little while ago, because shit, I'm pretty proud of myself for breaking the cycle of not working hard enough, and sitting my ass down and doing something productive. These are based on posemaniacs (I miss having access to live models at SCAD!) and vary from 30 seconds to about 2 hours--I bet you can tell which one that is--each.

Photobucket

I was kind of expecting to stagnate when I took a bit of a break after graduating, but to be honest, I've been really happy with my art lately. Maybe I needed that break, to collect my thoughts and figure things out. It's been a rough year.

Photobucket

I feel like my resolve has been strengthened. It shines as brightly as this man's radioactive nipples.

yalike dags?

It's occurred to me that if I'm going to keep a sketch blog, I should probably actually post the things I draw instead of keeping them stashed away in the basement of my computer like a sickly and deformed child who eventually becomes the antagonist of a bad horror movie. Worst analogy ever? Shit yeah.

Photobucket

So towards the end of this summer, I wrote up this set of rules for whenever I watched TV or movies, to force me to be more productive. It mostly consisted of circumstances in which I would need to draw a related picture. It pretty much was "I have to draw a picture every time I like something, and if I don't I have to do 50 push-ups." I realized halfway through this season's first episode of Gossip Girl that the problem with this wasn't the amount of work involved, it was my short attention span. I only did these 2 pictures before I decided I wasn't really being more productive if I was re-watching things 5 times and gave up. Then I did 4 push-ups. Which is totally almost 50.

Photobucket

I really like how Serena came out, but I don't know what the fuck is going on with Blair. Those ankles, those manly manly arms, that space-defying shopping bag. Anyway I drew those in September and just now remembered they existed.

Photobucket

Also, dogs.
